National Pollinator Week!

Happy National Pollinator Week!

Pollinator Week is an annual event that is celebrated in support of pollinator health! The goal of the week is to spread the word about all things pollinators, including the basics of what pollinators are and what we can do to protect them. Pollinators are especially important here at Kimmel because we need pollinators to pollinate our fruit, specifically our apples! We need around 1.9 million bees to pollinate our orchard, so we truly keep pollinator health in mind when planting our garden beds and with general orchard maintenance.

So, what are some ways you can celebrate National Pollinator Week? Keep your eye on our social media as we post different resources, activities, and information all week long. Also, check out the link below, which will take you to the National Pollinator Week website, which has tons of information and activities for all ages.

Finally, come visit the orchard for some educational opportunities! On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings at 10:30 am, we will have Garden Walk-Throughs with our landscape operations intern Kate.  She’ll be walking you through our pollinator landscape beds to show you how Kimmel has planted our garden beds with pollinators in mind. On Saturday, in addition to our final day of farmer’s market vendors, we will be having hayrack rides around the orchard! Join us starting at 10:00 am for an educational hayrack ride around the orchard. The hayrack rides will last between 15 to 25 minutes. The last hayrack ride will take off at 4:00 pm. All garden tours and hayrack rides will be free of charge! We hope to see you here at Kimmel this week to help celebrate National Pollinator Week at the orchard!
